Name: Ryan Albrecht
Location: Reston, VA
Age Group: Male 50 - 54
About Me: This is my 4th Triathlon / endurance sport season. Before that, I never did anything like this. I've spent 7 out of the past 10 years working 12 - 14 hour days, including Saturdays, and my break time was spent at McDonalds. I am now 20 pounds lighter, and have a much better / healthier lifestyle. I always played sports, but I ran to get into shape, I raced BMX for years, and I learned how to swim in the ocean when I was 2. I've been married since 10/03/08 to Lisa, who also is now a RAT, and we own a Financial Planning practice here in Reston.
What I do to pay the bills: Financial Advisor in Reston
Who defends the ranch when I'm out training: Our dog Belle. My wife, Lisa, is usually training with me.
Short term triathlon goals: PR at Columbia and Reston, and Eagleman this year.
Long term triathlon goals: Finish an Ironman
Fantasy triathlon goals: Qualify for Kona
Three favorite albums: Nine Inch Nails - anything, but if I had to pick one "the downward spiral"
Cure - "Disintegration"
This is a tie - Jane's Addiction - "Ritual de lo Habitual", A Perfect Circle ' "Mer de Noms", or Marilyn Manson - "Antichrist Superstar"
Favorite book: I'm used to reading a bunch of boring business and leadership books. Mastery or The Art of War
Favorite movie: The Empire Strikes Back
Chocolate: the more the better
Garlic: a little bit
Blue Cheese: yes
For breakfast, I usually have: cereal, eggs, parfait, or a smoothie
After a long day of training, my favorite meal is: Steak, or a burger and a beer. But being a native Marylander, nothing beats hot steamed crabs and cold beer.
My best triathlon advice is: Train on all 3 events, I learned this the hard way. It's all about the bike.
My best non-triathlon advice is: Get your priorities straight, and don't deviate from them
What was I thinking when I signed up for my first race: I was overweight, overworked, and really wanted some competition (non-work related), back in my life.
Everything I need to know I learned from: Yoda
My deepest, darkest secret is: It's still a secret
