Race Report:

I am a triathlete!
Ok, so Im a sprint triathlete not an ironman.

The riverwatch was my first triathlon and it was quite
enjoyable. Here are some highs and lows:

Low: I didnt time the pre-race bathroom visit well and
nerves were getting to me. I got in and out of line 2
times and never made it to the bathroom. Luckily my
nerves calmed after I went for a short warm up swim.

Low: I forgot my watch on the hotel nightstand.

High: I finish the swim in 21:59 which for me is about
as good as I could have expected. God bless wetsuits;
but as someone wrote ... I was just a more boyant lame
swimmer. I still need lots of practice and perhaps a
lesson or three. Also like Tom posted I probably swam
at least a mile. At one point I swam into the side of
someone. We both looked up with a very confused
expression before swimming off again.

Low: When I got out of the swim it felt like my heart
rate was really high and I was quite shaky (literally
shaky) in the bike transition which could explain why
it took me 3 minutes. Did I push the swim too fast or
is this normal? It took me about 5 miles of the bike
to feel decent again.

High: I was actually able to find my bike in the
transition area.

Low: I only averaged 17.1 mph on the bike. I was
hoping for 18-19. I clearly need to add some hills to
my normal ride. Hunter Mill Station here I come!

Low: Chugging a half cup of straight gatorade in the
bike transition before running off. It didnt sit well
but I kept it in.

High: despite having achilles tendonitis and not
running much at all in preparation for the race I
managed an 8:21 pace on the run.

High/Low: Someone posted a bagel with peanut butter
and banana as a pre-race meal. While it was very
tasty I felt like yacking for much of the race. I
figure this was because of how I felt after the swim
but Im not sure.

High: Meeting Diana, Cathy and Gwen after the race.
Diana congrats on your first tri as well!

Overall I met my three goals for the race:
Finish.
Dont pop my achilles
Dont throw up.
