Comment: Rudolph's Road Runners Rock DC!

Race Report:

I was up and out the door at 5:30. The morning was cold and rainy...UGH. I carpooled in to DC with my best friends from my team. Let's just say it was crazy from the onset. I knew we were going to be in trouble when the only motivational music I could find was "working 9 to five" on an old CD...which we all knew the words too and tandemly sang at the top of our lungs. There is never a dull moment! I had made personalized antlers for all the team. Unbenounced to the guys, they were all greeted with their "horns". We didn't find Fabrice until the start,so he was hornless. Fabrice, I have your antlers!

On a side note, the rest of the morning was humorously spent practicing the mating rituals of various horned animals...which includes the ramming tendencies of rams....too funny for words!!!! And,thanks to a local high school cheerleading squad demo, the Rudolph road runners squad imitating the Spartan cheerleader skits from Saturday Night Live.

We all headed to the start together, excited and ready for a flat fast course. With no winds and the cool temps, it was sure to be race. I had planned on running conservatively the first 5k and then progress up for the second 5k. I ended up running steady splits. I never really reached my max exertion and I was mildly dissappointed at the finish. I should have been winded and just didn't push myself hard enough for the last 3k. I began to overheat a bit at the turnaround and realized post race that I had forgot about the base shirt I had on, ending up wearing FOUR shirts. Duh! However, I did complete the entire race with my antlers proudly waving in the air. It was definitely a sight to see. I ran a 7:16 pace and dropped into the 6:50 range for a mile at the end. To be honest, I just wanted to beat the Annoplis Striders women so I had to kick in a bit. : )

I am so proud of our team! Fabrice pulled out a sub-40. YEA!
Followed on by Andre at 41, Carson at 44, and the required Female (me) at 45. The team placed 6th out of 23. Considering the first 5 teams were all actual "race teams"...we really are pleased.

The post race festivities included random drawings, of which two of da "boys" won, Starbucks coffee (with whip and sprinkles!), and the typical bagels/fruit. We had a great time. Nothing beats a good race with the best of friends.
