My second tri & my introduction to the RATS! |
Race Report:
After doing my first race in 1997, I stepped away from triathlon for a number of years to bum around out west for 18-months before coming back & getting into soccer.
I had an okay swim, but the water was covered with green plants everywhere and I think I zigged & zagged a bit. Out on the bike course I had a ton of fun and I really enjoyed this course with some flats for most of the ride & then a number of rollers to the end.
Coming into transition I felt okay, but as soon as I wandered out I started cramping. The first hill out of the park took a bite out of my enthusiasm, and when I got out of the park and onto the road, that climb, with the beating sun, really did some damage. I hit the turn-around and motored on home as best as I could. I was never so happy to turn into the park and into the SHADE! I saw the bridge and new I could let go of any reserves I had left.
After the race I found a couple of folks hanging near the pavillion beneath a Reston Area Triathletes banner. Hey, I thought, that's me! Tony & Jen & Dave & all were super nice to me as we talked about the race and the Reston area. Then the awards start and all these folks start heading up to gather hardware. So that was my introduction to RATS ... nice & fast :)
