Race Report:

My plan for escaping the twin tropical storms of the weekend started on Saturday with a ride in the Eat A Peach Challenge century, hosted by the good folks at the Brain Injury Association of Maryland. After that, I pressed on northward to enter enemy territory.

This was the 15th installment of the West Point Triathlon, and it is very well run. This year's course had only a minor alteration on the run leg due to the earlier rains making mud out of the original track. Nonetheless, we had great conditions for race day.

I signed up for the military division in this race. This had the good blessing of putting me in wave number one, along with the West Point male cadets and men 50 and over. All right...I'm the Navy grad going mano-y-mano with the Whoops. Bring 'em on!

As it turns out, I had a great race and beat all the cadets except for their ace ringer, who passed me on the first mile of the run. Of course, the cadets had just returned from their summer break, so they had some time off. But, Episode Two comes in six weeks...the Olympic distance race at Outback Big Lick that serves as the regional collegiate championship...and a faceoff with the Naval Academy's team. I'll be there, too.
