Very nice to see people I knew, but I shouldn't have done this race since it was embarrassingly slow. I hadn't done any swimming since August 15th or so when I'd contracted bacterial infection from hell in China (possibly from the inner mongolia trip?).

A week leading up to the race I was debating to do it/not do it. Too much pressure to just do it and I didn't get any sleep the night before. I was just hoping I wouldn't drown at this point.

Morning of race was fine, but the swim was demoralizing. I got out and was the ONLY bike left on the rack...that was starting to change before I left for China, or it seemed to be (Columbia and DITR had 30-31 min swims). I took my time in T1. I didn't care.

Anyways, bike wasn't too bad considering I took two months off in the middle of the season (biking in China didn't happen at all). I felt fine and was glad I'd ridden the course the week before even if I was dying going up hills that certain other people "spin up". On the other hand, lots of junk came out of my head since I'd swallowed a lot of water on the swim. That sucked.

The run. Ah yes... the run. Going out was tough... I wasn't ready. I think the first 5k killed me without any hope of recovering. (I still think the time listed above (50:51) is off by a full minute, but whatever.) The best part of the run is seeing everyone I know and cheering them on... Steve... Dave... Dan... Margie... Shandra... Alex... Keith... Bethany... and I'm sure I knew at least 20 others. Unbelievable. This is why I will do this race as long as I live in this area.

All in all, I had more fun socializing and cheering at this event than anything else... which, I guess, considering I still finished, made it worth the while :)
