Uh, so where are my cycling shoes?? |
Race Report:
I didn't do nearly as well as I had hoped or expected. The key reason was me doing a newbie mistake and forgetting a key piece of equipment: cycling shoes. Since I had fairly large platform Look pedals, I rode the course in my running shoes. Stupid, but its only the 2nd time in 10yrs of doing this I've forgotten something (first was goggles).
Swim Seemed endless, but was actually a very nice swim. I saw nary a jellyfish which surprised.
Bike I wasn't able to maintain my full pace since I couldn't pedal full circles. I did pretty well for about 20mi, but had to keep adjusting my feet after that because of hot foot caused by soft soled shoes. Still, I'm pleased I was able to average 20.3.
Run I melted. My feet hurt from the bike. The heat did me in. Ice and sprinklers just were not enough. I did run/walk for most of the course, with increasing lengths of walk. I drank at every water station. A change of shoes mid-run would have been glorious. Misery, but I finished.
