Race Report:
This looked like it would be a great day - I could walk 2 blocks from home to a race!
The swim was a bit of a train wreck, with a jam of 5 people in front of me and no chance to pass. Oh, well.
The bike started out fun - I got a kiss from Ann as I left the transition area, and felt great starting the bike. The first loop went well, then on the second I was panting and couldn't catch my breath easily. On the third I coasted all the downhills sitting up and trying to breathe, but had to stop on the final hill up Baron Cameron. I stood next to the road, weak and a bit dizzy, checked my heart rate (170s, maybe 180, too high for me). It took several minutes before my breathing calmed down.
I then walked up to Reston Parkway and slowly pedaled back to the transition. Within a few minutes I felt normal again, but I decided the run was out since I had no clue what happened, and still don't. I don't have a history of asthma, but do have some allergies. I'm going out on the bike again soon with a heart rate monitor on to try to duplicate this and figure it out.
Congrats to all the RATS I saw today!
