I've done this race w/ my daughter for the past 3 years and it has been my favorite part of Mother's Day. Shandra and LJ really put on a great race. But - for the 2nd year in a row - Mother Nature decided not to be forgiving on Mother's Day. It was cold cold cold. Temps were in the 40's. I think this year was colder than last year.

Swim
Uneventful - had a very sweet little girl ahead of me - so tried to let her do her thing. I finally had to pass her on the last lap. Although the water was warmer than the air - it was still cold. It took pretty much the entire swim to warm up for the swim. By the time I had my stroke down - we were out of the water.

T1
This year I wore my CROCS / sweatshirt / sweatpants to the pool and decided to run back in my CROCS to transition. I definately lost a few seconds on this one cause I had to stop to pick my clothes up. But -- I have Raynaud's Syndrome which makes the cold unbearable so anything to fend off the cold was necessary.

Bike
The ride was FREEZING. This year I was smart enough to put warmers in my bike shoes and wear a long sleeve bike jacket. Thank goodness. However - the cold seeped into my bones and I couldnt shake it for the rest of the race.

T2
Quick switch of shoes -- I couldnt feel the feet. I made the mistake of taking my sweatshirt off and suffered on the run

Run
Cold. It was hard getting the legs moving. I couldnt feel my toes at all -- I was literally running on blocks of wood. But I was determined to just jog the entire distance - which I did.

I finished 2 minutes slower than 2 years ago - 1:18. After I crossed the finish line - the shivering took control of my body and I had to leave fast and get warm. I had no feeling in my fingers or toes. It took a hot bath; hot tub soak; hot shower to calm the shivering. I dressed in thermals and sat around w/ my daughter watching movies and chilling for the rest of the day; never really warming up. I had bouts of shivering through the day. I'm working towards a series of races - w/ Eagleman next up and training this week has been tough to say the least. I've had zero energy and havent really cared.

I finally figured out I lost my MOJO on Sunday. The cold took something out of me. I'm sure you know - the MOJO is what gets you to the finish line when you're in pain. I'm slowly working on getting the MOJO back. In retrospect - I realized I need to "forgive" myself for not doing better to get the MOJO back.

So -- I'm focused on getting out to the trail on Sat for a solid ride and and run and to just have some fun :)
