Race Report:

Setup
T1 is at WG and T2 is in Herndon, so took a few minutes to setup transition, dropped bag in the pile for T2 and went to the locker room to stretch.

Swim (300 Yd) (4:10:53)
WOW, there are a LOT of people on the pool deck. Good camaraderie and smooth pool entries. My swim was enjoyable and I felt strong. I made several wall passes and some lane passes, but by the 3rd to last length I walked about 1/2 the length because I could not get past the herd. Made a few other passes, then the guy in front broke free on the last lap and I followed. We came out of the pool strong and made it down the stairs into T1

T1
Smooth clean transition.

Bike (58:47:21)
I went out with another rider, but he dropped me like a rock. Riding strong then 3 riders went by me at chased by a 4th. I attempted to get in the chase and quickly realized I did not have it. Settled into a strong pace, but comfortable. Another rider passed me west of 28 and my goal was to take him on the "stealth" hill to Partlows. He started to fade and I made my move and dropped him. Made the turn at Partlows and came back, but then I lost track that I was racing. This is the place that I always take a drink and collect myself on training runs. I started looking around and drinking and eating gel blocks. The guy passed me while I was daydreaming. GACK. I got back in the race and overtook him and did not look back. That was fun!

T2
Great volunteers. Smooth transition

Run (18:10:46)
Just fine. Got passed, but ran with everything I had. Came up to the volunteer on the trainer. He was shouting something, but I ran past him - Oh he said TURN :-). Made the turn to come back and I was home free. Great fun finish.

Lessons Learned
don't become complacent on the ride
