Race Report:

First thought as I saw my official result, I came in 416, and I was wearing number 416.

We were really lucky in Ashburn, the torrential rains came down at 7:20 AM as we were getting in the car to drive over to the race. By the time the race was ready to start, it was completely past us and the waterproof jacket I had on ended up wrapped around my waist after 1 mile. I met up with some friends and really my only warmup was trying to get them out of the house and getting to the start on time! They did the 2K fun run, which started 20 minutes later.

My goals:
Break 1 hour, not hurt myself.
Get exercise so that I can eat a lot of turkey!
Have fun.

My splits:
10:12 (shoe lace tying)
9:03
9:46
9:59
9:50
Missed the 6 mile mark, so 1.2 in 10:45.
Overall time 59:38

I've never had a problem with my shoelaces staying tied before, I guess from the dampness on the road, they came undone. Had to retie both of them in the first two miles which wasn't fun. After looking at my splits, I am shocked, can't believe how random they were. Maybe the mile markers weren't exact. I can't imagine mile 2 was that much faster.

I had a great time at this race. My legs felt good the entire time, which was good. My only goal for the race was to break an hour since I've never done that, I felt like I was flying that last mile trying to make it back in time. I will definitely be doing some speed work over the winter. A really good way to end my season, of course unless another fun close race comes up!
