Race Report:
An excellent end of year "gauging" 10K on a similar path to the Reston Triathlon bike course. Rolling hills, some tough, today was very cool - perfect for running a PR.
My goal was to finish under 50 minutes and to try to keep all of my splits under 8 minutes. I met my first goal with 7 seconds to spare, I only met half of my other goal. I took the week off since my half marathon PR last weekend so I was fresh, however, I had my first running pain of the season - my left knee started hurting as soon as I started running, it persisted until ~mile 3, really pretty painful, but not something I didn't feel comfortable running through. My only thought was that the timing was fine - this is my last race of the year, then I plan to give my body alot of recovery until February - so now was a good time to see it for the first time, and know to lay off.
I wanted to run this distance to gauge my fitness at the end of this spectacular racing year, so that next year I can hopefully see more improvement with my HR, my splits, and my weight (201 lbs today).
My splits and AHR (yes, I know its high):
Mile/Split/AHR 1 7:42 174 2 8:19 174 3 8:18 175 4 8:24 180 5 7:51 182 6 7:46 183 6.2 1:33 183 TOTAL = 49:53 (8:02 pace)
