This race is a couple miles longer than 50 km. Depending on which measurements you believe, it's somewhere between 33 and 34.5 miles. That notwithstanding, it's a very good "first" ultra. There are a lot of jeep/fire roads on the course, and the single-track sections are fairly forgiving. People who have only done road races will find the course to be quite hilly. However, compared to most trail races (and hence, ultras), it's fairly flat. There are cabins and bunk houses right at the start/finish area. The cabins are not insulated or heated, so they can get quite chilly in February. The bunk houses are heated, but there are more beds in the bunk houses, so a light sleeper might be disturbed by the 20 other people in the room.
