Race Report:
I really enjoyed the Abebe Bikila Day Half Marathon; it was held in honor of the great Ethiopian marathoner and two-time Olympic gold medalist ('60 - where he he won barefoot, '64). At yesterday's race, the winner was a Kenyan, second place went to an Ethiopian runner, and they both finished in 1 hour, 11 minutes, and change!
This is the same course as the Potomac River Run half marathon (you can complete the course twice for the full marathon in May) and I believe is the same as one of DC Road Runners half marathon courses out of Belle Haven marina. It is challenging and has some good hills around Fort Hunt. It is all on the Mount Vernon bike trail. (Personally, I like hills. My legs were tired from the field events on Saturday and Sunday at the PV Games, but I still enjoyed the hills.)
For those who care about the details: groovy tech fibre shirts instead of cotton. Finisher medals to all finishers. Ethiopian entertainment post-race, including poetry reading and dancers.
