This is a great event - but don't go expecting a PR. |
Race Report:
I ran slowly and cautiously, doing 33:07. I wasn't even going to wear a timing chip, but then I realized I had let my friends include me on their team (not that I thought I'd be contributing my time). Besides, my hamstrings had had quite enough thank you after my weight pentathlon and half marathon back to back last (Labor Day) weekend. To me, this one is an event more than a race. My hubby and I have done it every year but one (when a family emergency prevented us) and it is always hot and crowded. I get a bit teary at the bagpipers. I stop for at least a few seconds and listen. I say treat this as a training run (or for those who prefer to think of it as such, as a G-rated hash run of sorts) and come out and sweat before you enjoy the beer truck, burgers, dogs, pizza and hanging out on a hot late summer evening. My race report is on my blog at http://runfairfax.blogspot.com/2007/09/race-report-arlington-policefiresheriff.html.
