Race Report:

I'll start with seriously questioning my motivation. Note to self... reconsider happy hour with tha RATS the night before a race, or should I say happy hours and hours! I had a great time meeting everyone and look forward to many good times ahead. I made it home from Clydes about 10pm with just enough time to load up my car and rest my eyes for a few hours before my long drive to the Eastern Shore. I made it safely and at daybreak the skies were heavy with fog and a steady mist. It was a beautiful sight, but not the most ideal conditions for a salt water swim.

I set up my transition area and once again was racked with the Naval Academy group...a good group of kids. We all chatted and then made our way down to the swim start. I was in the fourth wave and had plenty of time to adjust to the water. The currents wer strong and I had a couple gulps of salt water. I just couldn't settle in to a grove. I exited the water at 13:53.
T1 was smooth but not fast: 1:38 and I was off on the bike. It was a flat course and I knew I just didn't want to hear those dreaded words... On your left! It was a nice 15.2 mile ride. My split was 51:28. T2 was not so smooth. I couldn't find my rack! It was the first time I was actually disoriented to the point of panic. I finally saw my bag and all was right in my world again. The T2 time wasn't posted...but it couldn't have been pretty. The run was an out and back flat course and I maintained an 8:19 pace. I was a little dissappointed because I knew I could have run faster.

I hung around afterwards for the awards and got my 2nd place medal. It really turned out to be a gorgeous day. The people were all friendly and the post race DJ had an awesome selection of music. It really added to the atmosphere. I met several triathletes from around the region and everyone agreed it was a great Sprint venue. We all bid farewell and with a tear in my I drove home as my first triathlon season came to an end. Still, I have that "just one more" thought in the back of my head. But hey, we have next year to look forward too!
