Race Report:
Which is a better wt pentathlon score than in September... but still not very good, I assure you. Still, I had fun and had an interesting hammer throw foul: my wayward hammer ended up stuck on top of the safety netting, hanging like the Sword of Damacles, and stalling the competition. It was very carefully dislodged with the end of a javelin and competition continued. Hammers are scary things, but few things are more fun when you are having a bad week (like I had last week) than hurling very heavy objects to the best of your ability. Also, I was wondering what was wrong with my shotputting lately, and a very helpful coach was able to fix my latest quirk for me on the spot with instant happy result. Too bad the competition was over, because I'd have put further with his advice in play.
I realize this is not running or biking (and it's definitely not swimming): but field events are something I really enjoy competing in (even when I am getting my butt kicked by better athletes, whom it is an honor to get to compete with because some of them have really excellent creds) and these events are part of my overall training. I hope that some of you folks enjoy my tales of the odd and other sports that occur beyond the bleachers and away from the track!
