Race Report:
SWIM COURSE: Single rectangular loop in Hambrooks Bay & continuing into the brackish Choptank River, well-marked by bright orange buoys at the turns & yellow tetrahedren buoys.
The '09 swim route is NEW only due to boat dock repairs. There are motorized craft, kayak support & a dive team to assist. The water temp in June can range from 68-76'F. Wetsuits are allowed & encouraged.
BIKE COURSE: Mostly through the flat, scenic, windy terrain of The Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. Winds have been clocked at 30+ mph! There are professional motorcycle support & sag vehicles. There are 14 aid stations on the bike - roughly every 10-12 miles.
In '09, the State of Maryland installed new rumble strips on the shoulder of the road at the turn from Dailsville Rd onto Route 16 until Madison Rd (approx. 6 mi). Use extreme caution in this area.
RUN COURSE: The run is a flat out & back 13.1-mile loop on mostly rural, unshaded roads. There are 12 aid stations on the run.
