Stayed at the Marriott fairly close to the race course. That was great (kitchen)!
Gorgeous day despite rain the following day.
Swim was in the James River where the W&M swim team does their fundraising swim so I knew it well. I crushed the course, coming out 24th overall with a time of 32:17 when the average was over 45 minutes! The current got a lot of people, but I hit it perfectly.
Long run to T1, but fairly uneventful. Took a bit longer than usual because I pulled on arm warmers (note - roll them up next time, then unroll on arms once dry!).
Bike was flying which made me push harder, unfortunately. It took a long time for people behind me to catch me so I pushed and pushed. My lower back and hamstrings started bothering me with about 20 miles to go, not a good sign. This was also when the draft packs started passing - and annoying - me.
T2 was uneventful.
Run felt good for about 1 mile then started to get ugly. By mile 5 I was walking regularly. By mile 8 I was walking full time. Everything was seizing up. Not cramping, but just nothing left to give. I saw Karen along the run and would run for the 100 yards required to make her think I was still running and not bring her down. Other than that it was a slow slog into the finish.
Notes: need to work on core strength.
