Side stickers on the run, lots of walking |
Race Report:
This was my third race in that cursed mountain, I was shooting to break 3 hours this year, but it didn't happen, my swim was 34:50, which was OK, I'm not a fast swimmer, the bike was 1:30:00, given my biking abilities and the steep mountain, quite reasonable time. First mile into the run I started feeling the side stickers, which grew so strong that felt like somebody was sawing my body into two parts through my waist. Quite naturally and according to my triathlon credo I started to walk. After a while the pain subsided and I started running again. At the end of the first loop I caught up with my buddy Keith Bonnenberger, who was walking the whole run due to his Achilles tendon injury. Of course I had the purest intentions to walk with him until the end of the race, but he started motivating me to get running again. He somehow succeeded into talking me to keep running, which I did. I guess I have walked at least a mile from the running course. And YES I'll do it again next year, this is my first international distance and I am emotionally connected with this wretched race.
