Race Report:
I'd originally flown back to Reston from Wyoming to hang with my family, celebrate my sister's birthday and watch my dad do a Duathlon. I wasn't going to watch Reston, since that was my sister's birthday, but I did swing by the pick-up. One thing led to another and by the 10th time someone asked me if I was gonna race I simply gave up and said, "I don't have a bike."
Well, I borrowed a bike and managed to win ... so why watch dad race the duathlon, why not take the bike to Delaware.
I managed to hang at the top of the race for the run, clocking some 5:50-ish miles (over 1.5 ...) but my legs were flat on the borrowed road bike on flat terrain. Modern tri bikes and aero wheels do make a difference. I was 3:30 behind the winner's bike split and almost 5 minutes behind the fastest split of the day (2nd overall). I suspect that 1:45 of that could be attributed to gear and another 0:30 to having raced hard the previous weekend.
By the time I got to the (confusingly laid-out) 2nd run, I was fighting myself. Still managed some 6:00-ish splits.
By far the best part of the race was helping dad set up transition and then seeing him head out of the second run as I was finishing. Way to go dad!
