Race Report:
[In following the principle that the race report should be shorter than the race itself, this report will be brief. I don’t necessarily agree with Jamie Roberson that this event “…is probably not enough to get any respectable RAT out of bed…”, although I admit that it is a valid question to ask why I choose to do this race. I had my reasons, and to discuss them here would stretch beyond my allotted 20 minutes.]
May 16, 2004 Manassas (VA) Mini-Tri Overcast with pre-race showers, Low 60s, minimal winds.
The Course: Swim: 250m (10 lengths) of the Freedom Center pool in alternating-direction lanes. Transition: Freedom Center parking lot. No bike racks. Your designated transition area is half of a standard vehicle parking space. (The other half shared with another competitor) Chairs or stands to prop up your bike were encouraged. Bike: 3.5 mile course on fresh asphalt surfaces. Minimal elevation changes. Run: 1.2 mile course around the parking lot, then out-and-back along a wide sidewalk.
