This was my bad idea for a vacation |
Race Report:
In the week leading up the first weekend of August, I promised myself that if I got my house in order and did my chores, I'd reward myself by taking a little "training trip" vacation to West Virginia. I had caught wind on the internet about a race called the Tri-State Triathlon near Huntington. It was the 2nd annual triathlon, so it sounded safe.
Little did I realize (1) How big WV is when you're driving through it, and (2) What was really in store for me when I got to the race.
I could tell you more. It's a good community event for a community that isn't familiar with many athletic events beyond Marshall University football. Let's just say that when I finally saw the bike course the evening before the race, I was scared. I thought that I couldn't escape from it unscathed. Either I'd get hit by an oncoming car on a narrow road, slide out on the gravel parts of the road, or get a flat tire. It turns out that I managed to survive the race with only one flat tire.
It was a fun little trip, but never again am I going back to that bike course.
