Race Report:
A ten miler recipe for disaster:
3 Weeks off Ironman Wisconsin + Busiest Work Week of the Year + Homecoming Football Game day before the race + Day before race meals, Steak and Eggs w/ Beer, and Brats and Beer for an early dinner + Deciding not to run when I went to sleep Saturday + Telling my wife I wasn’t going to run, and meaning it at 6:45 on race morning (race start at 8, and is a 30 minute + drive) + Deciding at 6:50, why not I’m awake and I’ll have to get a run in today anyway, so I go to the race + Running 8:35’s for the first 7 miles in heavy congestion + Course altered to 11.4 miles (but no one was told) = Potential Disaster
In reality the race went well, I held right at an 8:35 pace through the first 7 miles, putting me at mile 7 at 1:00:20, and I never saw another mile marker, the last 4.4 miles took 37:08, which means I ran around 8:30’s for the last part of the race. Had the course been a 10 mile course I would have set or come very close to my 10 mile PR of 1:26:59. I know I wasn’t supposed to “race” this one, but I felt pretty good the entire duration, up until the extra 1.4 miles and still think I can PR on Saturday at the 5 mile distance. Being able to run a good MCM may be a different story.
