Disappointed. Good swim and bike, lousy run. Need to figure out how not to "give in" and walk! |
Race Report:
Swim: 25:39 (29) T1: 1:39 (48) Bike: 1:14:58 (53) T2: 1:01 (58) Run: 54:04 (173) - ouch!
When riding my bike from our lodge to the race site, I noticed an issue with my shifting. Thankfully Adam from Bonzai was able to adjust it quickly upon arrival!
The first two segments felt pretty good to me. I was moving along, and further ahead of my two "chasers" Goebel and Mackem than I was in prior years (I think). Unfortunately, the run hit me hard. I felt the need to walk quite a bit, although it was probably mostly mental when it comes down to it. My legs were tired, but I need to find a way to fight through.
The swim felt good, and I was really moving through the waves of people. It was hard at times to find a channel, but overall I had fairly open water. I even used the corkscrew turning method for the first time and it worked brilliantly around buoys!
T1 was uneventful albeit a bit slower than I would have liked.
The bike went reasonably well. The hills were harder on me than in prior years due to lack of training, but in general I held my own.
T2 also uneventful.
Unfortunately, I just couldn't talk myself out of walking during the run. The course felt HARD! Yes, I was in worse shape than prior years, but I still should have been able to do this. It was pure mental giving in.
Oh well, I finished and the Sprint went better the next day!
