1. Steve Smith: |
This is a classic cross-country course. There is very little flat, very little straight, very little road, and lots of gravel and packed dirt. Oh, and it's gorgeous.
The course starts on a downhill from the Ida Lee Rec Center and quickly enters Morven Park for a series of rolling hills that take you to the first of two water stops. The race continues to roll until you hit a street on the top end of the park. As you run up the street you pass mile marker 3 and then you run past the (re)entrance to the park for a quick out-and-back. Once you re-enter the park you hit the longest hill of the race. It's not terribly steep, but it's steep enough and LONG. Here you hit the same water station for a second time. After the water stop there is some down hill, but don't let that fool you. As you come back toward the begining of the race, the course takes a hard right just to squeeze in another hill. You hit the road to return to Ida Lee and finish on the hill.
